  • Our focus is on building a very fault-tolerant, loosely coupled, scalable, and real-time distributed system

  • We are generally agnostic of language, technology, or tools. Currently, our tech stack is built on Golang, Node.js, Ruby, Java, and PHP. We use Aerospike, MySQL as data stores, ElasticSearch for search, and Beanstalkd for queuing

Engineering Team @ Tech @ Exotel

The “Exotel Engineering” Team builds applications and products enabling customers to use our Public Cloud Contact Center offering. The team builds the regulatory layer required for complying as a Virtual Telephone Operator. The team is responsible for building and maintaining a software layer on top of the Telecom Carrier network that helps in determining the best path for completing a call or delivering a message. The Intelligent infra layer on top of global telecom infrastructure ensures reliability, cost, and quality. 

Network Engineering within the Exotel Engineering team involves all aspects: Proactive Engineering, Network Optimization, and operational network support for network connectivity to telecom operators, cloud and DC networks across our Data centers, Designing and architecting services and features, development, testing, instrumentation, deployment, stabilization, and operations. 

You'll be heavily involved in the core network / Data center layer, which forms the backbone of our connectivity offerings, with a primary focus on network engineering. Your tasks will go beyond simply expanding to new locations and geographies, requiring constant consideration of challenges such as rapidly scaling out the cluster to double its capacity, elevating reliability from 99.95 to 99.99, and optimizing redundancies,  improving response times by trimming off milliseconds.

We are looking for engineers driven by a passion to create applications systems that can redefine Connectivity on top of global telecom infrastructure.

 

What will you do?

 

You will be a part of the “Network Engineering” team at Exotel. Specifically, we are looking for engineers to design and architect the Data center that helps create a Telecom carrier agnostic infra layer that Exotel and other tech stacks can use.

Responsibilities include end-to-end network engineering aspects:

  • As a Network Engineer, you will be working on Exotel’s network and have end-to-end ownership (architecture/design/scale/operations) of our current and newly developing networks.

  • Knowledge and experience in telecom SBC(Mandatory)
  • Lead the design of highly available large-scale telephony networks, driving them from concept to launch

  • Work closely with our software developers to fully automate network deployment and operations

  • Drive operational excellence projects to improve network performance and reliability

  • Enforce and strengthen security levels of the data centers.

  • Troubleshoot complex problems and develop innovative solutions

  • Dive Deep into the high severity of incidents, recommend preventative solutions, and participate in root cause analysis

  • Partner with our broader Technical operations organization to reduce operational burden

  • Support in organizational transformation from reactive to proactive with a focus on predictiveness

  • Deliver simple, sustainable, and repeatable solutions and processes

  • Drive standards across the network and ensure that we are fully compliant to those standards and policies

  • Participate in hiring and developing the best

  • Help enforce and/or tweak SLAs for existing deployments to improve efficiency

  • Stakeholder management 

 

 Must-haves

  • 8+ years of experience with a Bachelor / Master's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.

  • Knowledge and experience with LAN/WAN/SD-WAN infrastructure

  • Knowledge and experience in telecom SBC

  • Knowledge and experience with internet routing protocols and concepts: SIP, WEBRTC, TCP/IP, VLAN, BGP, OSPF, MPLS

  • Knowledge and experience with network security and various secured VPN technologies

  • Knowledge and experience with network operating systems such as Cisco IOS and Junos

  • Experience working in a Linux/Unix environment, DNS and DHCP

  • Experience in various network monitoring tools 

  • Experience in automation via Bash/shell scripting and Perl/Python programming

  • Knowledge of various end-user devices and their network interactions

  • Proficiency in configuring and managing networking devices, including switches, routers, firewalls, SBC

  • Knowledge of network analysis fundamentals and robust troubleshooting skills; specifically, network performance analysis

  • A "DevOps" mindset. You own what you will develop.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail and a head for problem-solving.

  • Team-player, flexible, and able to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong project management skills, issue prioritization, and stakeholder communication. 

 

Good-to-haves

  • Exposure to databases like Mongo, Redis, Mysql, or other relational DBS

  • Strong understanding of Microservice design and distributed architecture
